The Cumaná Bingo, which is located in the Universidad Avenue in the capital of the state of Sucre, has been the victim of so many thefts that the police have lost count of the occasions they have had to go to the bingo room for that reason.
At the beginning, the police Commander informed in a press conference that he estimated that the delinquents had robbed 90 million bolivars (about 42 million dollars) from the bingo. However, hours later, the Sub-Commissioner of Investigations, clarified that the amount of money the criminals took was “only” up to 35 million bolivars (a bit over 16 million dollars).
The cars that were used for the theft were recovered, after being abandoned by the robbers. In the cars, the police found a gage-12-shotgun that had an unused bullet and a mini Uzi machinegun, probably from the Military Force.
There is a possibility of some kind of complicity between the thieves and the employees of the bingo room, because the same modus operandi has been used in all the assaults and they are always during the morning. The burglars took advantage of the insufficient and defective security measures of the bingo. Since the last robbery, the security cameras hadn’t been put up and no extra personnel were hired as a complement of the only two security guards that watch over the huge parking lot.
